CBB world reacts to Bob Huggins’ reported resignation from WVU

It appears as though Bob Huggins has coached his last game, at least for West Virginia University.

Huggins, who has coached the Mountaineers since 2007, reportedly told his team and assistant coaches that he will be leaving the program following a DUI arrest in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported on Saturday that “West Virginia Hall of Fame coach Bob Huggins has informed his team that he won’t be coaching them and intends to resign, following last night’s DUI incident.”

Friday’s DUI was just the latest in what was already a tumultuous offseason for the 69-year-old Huggins. He had previously come under fire when in a conversation about Xavier, Huggins was heard making disparaging comments about both homosexuals and Catholics.

The news is certainly notable. Huggins had recruited a talented team to West Virginia and despite never winning a national championship, Huggins is one of the more decorated college basketball coaches in recent memory.

Despite that, the overwhelming majority of people in the college basketball world felt that one way or another, his tenure at West Virginia had to end.

While Huggins is most known for his tenures at West Virginia and Cincinnati, he also coached at Walsh, Akron and Kansas State. He made a Final Four once with the Bearcats in 1992 and again with the Mountaineers in 2010. Huggins has a career record of 935–414 and was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.
