Legendary college basketball coach Bob Huggins teetered into disgraceful behavior on Monday.
Huggins, who coaches the West Virginia Mountaineers, joined 700 WLW Radio in Cincinnati, where he coached previously at the University of Cincinnati. Cincy and the Xavier Musketeers have had a longstanding rivalry that Huggins was a part of in the 2000s.
During his appearance, Huggins appeared to use a homophobic slur more than once about Xavier fans. Huggins seemed to refer to Xavier fans as “Catholic f–s.” Awful Announcing provided a clip of the listen.
Warning, the use of slurs is unedited and unfiltered in the audio clip.
There’s no other way to say it: These disgraceful comments are likely to land Bob Huggins in seriously hot water. It’s tough to imagine him surviving this, and it’s tough to find sympathy for him as well here. Huggins might be the West Virginia men’s basketball coach right now… but only for now.
“So long, Bob. And I wouldn’t blink if Xavier walked away from their radio deal with the station, either,” Marquette blog Anonymous Eagle tweeted.

“Absolutely deplorable,” another fan said.
“Huggs being Huggs egged on by Billy being Billy – two obnoxious pathetic people,” another fan tweeted.
“Bob Huggins just threw away a job he’s had for almost 20 years, wow,” another fan said.
It does not sound like this is going to end well for Bob Huggins at all. Nor should it, and the radio hosts didn’t do themselves any favors here, either.
