Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan has always been a charismatic character whose presence creates must-watch television. There was a reveal on Wednesday about the former New York Jets head coach indicating that he will be back on a major television show soon, but in a very different way than we’re used to seeing him.
Ryan has been at ESPN since his time as an NFL head coach in 2017, but he will be temporarily heading over to CBS to compete in The Amazing Race.
The Amazing Race posted a video on social media Wednesday previewing the newest season of the longtime show, and Ryan was revealed as one of the contestants.

Ryan will be competing on the show along with partner Tim Mann, who is reportedly a friend whom he plays golf with.
Many are excited to see how he will fare in the scavenger-hunt-themed show with a massive $1 million prize for the winning team.

Ryan’s casting video for the show also emerged on social media on Wednesday, where Ryan and Mann revealed that even though they feel they are the “underdogs,” Ryan’s team-building experience as a coach is something that they view as a positive in the competition.
“I do know a little bit about team building,” said Ryan. ” A lot of people I think will love us because we are kinda the underdogs. Why not us? We have a one in 12 chance so why not go for it.”

His time in the NFL as a head coach was a rollercoaster, experiencing some major highs with the Jets while struggling as coach of the Buffalo Bills.
Even when Ryan struggled in certain coaching stints, he was always entertaining, which should translate nicely to The Amazing Race when the show premieres in late September on CBS.
