The Minnesota Vikings are looking to get the J.J. McCarthy injury underway. Unfortunately, after just two starts, the young quarterback went down with a high ankle sprain. Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz filled in and led the Vikings to an impressive win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Wentz’s next start came against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland, a loss. However, Wentz had an impressive showing. On Sunday, the Vikings found themselves in their second consecutive international game, this time squaring off against the Cleveland Browns in London, Englangd. This time, Wentz led a game-winning drive that was capped off by a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Addison.
As impressive as Wentz was against the Browns, it would appear Minnesota already felt comfortable enough with his previous starts to let anoterh quarterback go before Minnesota even faced the Browns, per one prominent insider.
“The #Vikings are placing center Ryan Kelly on injured reserve as he recovers from his second concussion in three weeks, per sources. Kelly will miss at least four games. Another blow to Minnesota’s offensive line, which will be down two other starters Sunday vs. Cleveland,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport before giving an update on Minnesota’s quarterback room.
“The #Vikings also activated FB C.J. Ham for injured reserve and released QB Desmond Ridder.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“So does he just fly back from London?” one fan wondered on Twitter.
“So does this mean Ridder is stuck in London?” another person asked.
“At least they are fortunate that JJ is not able to play,I bet they wished they had not thrown all that money away,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Ridder lands with another team.
