The Minnesota Twins placed star shortstop Carlos Correa on the injured list on Saturday.
Correa recently himself and appeared to suffer a muscle strain. His injury caused concern among Twins fans and then the diagnosis later was revealed.
Correa strained his oblique muscle, and as a result, will head to the 10-day injured list. Audra Martin, the Twins’ dugout reporter for Bally Sports North, emerged with the news.
“Carlos Correa is headed to the IL with an oblique strain,” Martin said. Corresponding moves were made elsewhere including calling up prospect Jair Camargo and designating Michael Tonkni for assignment.
The Twins shortstop has spent the last three years in Minnesota. After he spent his entire career with the Houston Astros, Correa moved to the Twins in the 2021 MLB offseason. Since arriving, Correa hasn’t quite been the player he was in Houston, but he’s still been strong.
Correa’s hit .262 in 282 games with the Twins with an OPS of .776. After hitting 22 home runs in 2022, he hit 18 in 2023, falling just shy of yet another 20-homer season.
In his illustrious career, Correa is a two-time American League All-Star (2017, 2021). He won the World Series with the Astros in the 2017 season and also won the AL Rookie of the Year award back in 2015. He’s been one of the best shortstops in baseball since he arrived on the scene.
Minnesota will likely miss Correa’s presence, but it doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury.
