Los Angeles Dodgers two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani is no stranger to rewriting the record books, both on the mound and at the plate. And now, he’s done it again on Major League Baseball’s grandest stage.
On Monday night, Ohtani etched his name into postseason history, accomplishing something no player had ever done before.
In a marathon game that stretched into extra innings, Ohtani came to the plate seven times and reached base all seven.
As Talkin’ Baseball highlighted on social media, Ohtani is officially the first player in MLB postseason history to reach base seven times in a single game.
He started his historic night with a leadoff double in the first inning, then extended the Dodgers’ lead to 2-0 with a solo shot in the third. Ohtani later tied the game 5-5 with another home run in the seventh, before being intentionally walked once in the ninth and twice more during extra innings.
And as if that weren’t enough, the superstar is set to take the mound for the Dodgers in Game 4 at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night — just hours after making postseason history with his bat.
Needless to say, this absolutely insane performance from Ohtani sparked a lot of reactions on social media.
“They never gonna pitch to him again this series,” one fan wrote.
“Bow for the king,” someone else added.
“Another record,” a third said.
“Just call the record book Shohei Ohtani,” someone else quipped.
“This guy keeps making history,” another person added.
“On base 7 times in one game is absurd,” someone else said.
We’ll have to see how Ohtani follows this performance on the mound on Tuesday.
