The Raiders have high hopes for the season after adding some great leadership to the franchise. Not only is seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady a part of the franchise as a minority owner, but Pete Carroll is entering his first season as the Raiders’ head coach.
The Raiders also added veteran quarterback Geno Smith this offseason, reuniting Carroll with the last starting quarterback he coached before his brief retirement at the end of his tenure with the Seahawks.
However, the Raiders will have to make do without the man who is supposed to serve behind Carroll for the time being, according to one prominent league insider.
“Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell fractured his wrist in last night’s preseason finale and he’ll be out 6-8 weeks, likely beginning the season on IR,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Raiders should trade for Anthony Richardson. I’m sure Pete Carroll would be able to mold him well while he sits behind Geno,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“You could sign Skylar Thompson off of Pittsburgh for a 7th rounder probably. He played really well all training camp and preseason,” someone else added.
“Not praying on dudes downfall but fuck Asa raider fan we don’t wanna see him no more! We wanna win,” a Raiders fan wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see who gets tabbed as the Raiders’ backup in O’Connell’s absence.
