Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory on Sunday. Mahomes and the Chiefs soundly defeated the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs’ 31-17 win improved them to 6-1 on the year as they hold a firm lead in the AFC West.

Mahomes was his usual terrific self. He went 32-for-42 on passes for 424 yards. The Chiefs quarterback threw four touchdowns and one ineffective interception. Mahomes used one specific area of the field to take down the Chargers on Sunday: The intermediate.

According to Next Gen Stats, the Chiefs superstar hit 13 of his 14 passes to the intermediate area of the field. The NFL and Next Gen Stats define the intermediate area as ’10-19 air yards’ down the field.

The superb and perhaps the absurd thing about his performance was that Mahomes set a new standard. He accumulated 259 yards while throwing to the intermediate area, which Next Gen Stats said was “the most in a game over the last five seasons.”

Mahomes was almost impossible to stop throwing to that area of the field. The Chargers had no answer for what the Chiefs superstar had to offer on Sunday, a repetitive theme for sure.

Next up for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs is a road matchup against longtime AFC West rival Denver. Kansas City defeated the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in the Chiefs’ last game before Sunday.

The NFL world had plenty to say about Mahomes and his absurd day at the office.
