The Washington Commanders have found their quarterback.
Washington selected LSU Tigers quarterback and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft.
Daniels originally started his college career with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he spent three seasons and threw 32 total touchdown passes before transferring to LSU for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
LSU is where Daniels evolved and flourished. Aided by top-flight wide receiving talent, Daniels threw 57 total touchdown passes in his two seasons in Baton Rouge, with 40 of the 57 coming in his Heisman season. The dual-threat quarterback also rushed for over 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns while with the Tigers.
Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, who went 1-1 against Daniels and LSU in the two seasons the quarterback was there, had nothing but positive things to say about Daniels.
“This guy’s an electric athlete. But he can throw it. He’s got a quick release. He’s got a great work ethic,” the future hall-of-fame head coach said.
After trading quarterback Sam Howell earlier this offseason, it was evident that the team would be looking for a franchise quarterback in the draft, and they have gotten their man.
Social media had plenty to say about the pick, with most agreeing that Washington made the right call and commending the team for the pick.
