Mizzou just landed a quality player from the NCAA transfer portal. The Tigers learned that Florida Gators defensive tackle Chris McClellan chose them over a variety of suitors. In an SEC-to-SEC move, McClellan will now wear black and gold for the next two seasons.
On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett reported the news of his transfer.
“Former Florida DL Chris McClellan has committed to Missouri,” Fawcett said. He noted that the defensive lineman McClellan has two years of eligibility remaining following this transfer move.
The move shores up the Mizzou defensive line going into 2024. It looked like a potential weak spot, but this addition helps keep everything stout. Mizzou will also add top-ranked EDGE recruit Williams Nwaneri of Lee’s Summit (MO) next year, making for a potent D-Line.
Florida has felt some woes lately on the recruiting trail. Losing a player to the portal is commonplace nowadays, but obviously, this one has to sting a bit. It’s not the first move for a Florida Gators to head to an SEC team this offseason, either. Trevor Etienne announced he intended to transfer from the Gators to rival Georgia. That one might be a bit harder for Gator fans to swallow.
Mizzou looks like a team to be reckoned with in 2024. They play in the Cotton Bowl on Friday against Ohio State, which could be a doozy.
