The Oakland Grizzlies pulled off a stunning upset of 3rd-seeded Kentucky on Thursday night. Jack Gohlke entered the space with a prolific showing from deep en route to the massive victory. Oakland taking mighty Kentucky down made them darlings all over due to the Wildcats’ overwhelming hatability. It turns out that Louisville fans might have poked some fun at their expense.
Oakland coach Greg Kampe brought everyone up to speed on what’s gone on since they took the Wildcats down. According to Kampe, Oakland University, located in Michigan (not California, as some assumed), saw its website crash. Additionally, Kampe said that thousands of dollars were spent on apparel, with many featuring Louisville ZIP codes.
Charlie Clifford, a Cincinnati-area reporter, noted Kempe’s words on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
“Oakland head coach Greg Kampe says the school has sold over $8K of merchandise to online customers with Louisville zip codes,” Clifford said.
Assuming this is the root, you have to hand it to Louisville fans. This is hilarious trolling amid a cornerstone rivalry in D1 college athletics. The Louisville-Kentucky basketball rivalry is rich with tradition and history, even recently. Kentucky and Lousiville went back to back last decade, winning the 2012 and 2013 Men’s Basketball Championships respectively.
So, a tip of the cap to Louisville fans for some high-quality trolling.
