The New York Jets stirred up some buzz on Christmas Eve. It appears that Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas will get a great gift for Christmas. According to team owner Woody Johnson himself, both will be retained for the 2024 NFL season.
The New York Post reported the Jets owner’s decision, which he said was his decision alone. So, no matter where the ship goes in 2024, Johnson is laying it all on him.
Brian Costello posted the news on Christmas Eve morning. “Jets owner Woody Johnson says he’s keeping Robert Saleh, Joe Douglas for 2024,” Costello posted.
It’s perhaps noteworthy that Johnson is sticking his neck out on this one. But it makes sense when you think about it. 2023 was a disappointing year for the Jets, but it’s nothing that course correction can’t improve in 2024. Rodgers needs to stay healthy, and some valuable additions can be made to help improve the team even more.
So it’ll be interesting to see how things play out. The Jets have one of the best defenses in the NFL. But the team arguably wasted it by not improving their quarterback situation throughout the season. The team spiraled to a 5-9 record thus far and they’re eliminated from postseason contention.
All things considered, there’s no reason to really move on from either of them. So Johnson and the Jets’ decision to keep them makes sense.
The NFL world reacted to the news.
