The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team added another tally to an already impressive season.
Iowa won its third consecutive Big Ten Championship in women’s basketball on Sunday. The Hawkeyes, led by Caitlin Clark and a furious effort from her teammates, defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers in an overtime thriller that had the people going.
Iowa noted its remarkable achievement with a post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “Three straight,” the Hawkeyes said, emphatically dropping the mic.
Clark wasn’t at her best today, but her teammates more than picked up her efforts. In fact, when it comes to the play of the game, Clark didn’t make it, and she’d probably tell you the same. Hawkeyes senior Gabbie Marshall came up huge with a massive blocked shot in the last few moments.
The Hawkeyes and Huskers’ thriller will likely be one of the biggest stories of the sports weekend. It could wind up as one of the most-watched games of the weekend, too. The win puts Iowa in a strong position to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Should that occur, Clark and the Hawkeyes have a golden opportunity to get back to the National Championship Game. They fell last year to Angel Reese and the LSU Tigers. This year, it could prove different.
