Greg Olsen will return to Fox this coming NFL season, but he will be in a different place. Since Fox inked a mega-deal with seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, that means that he’s making too much money to not be the top analyst on Fox.
Olsen will remain on coverage this season, but will work the No. 2 crew. Fox will place Olsen with the venerable Joe Davis, the networks’ No. 1 Major League Baseball announcer, who’s been with the network for nearly a decade.
Awful Announcing was among those to write on the news of Olsen’s new home on the broadcast network.
It’s a bit of an unfortunate situation for Olsen. Few doubted his prowess in the booth. In fact, many consider him to be the best color commentator in the NFL today, over the likes of Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, and Cris Collinsworth. Still, Fox likely has to pick up a hefty tab on Brady, who they signed to this analyst position well over a year ago. So, a reshuffling was necessary. Though, you could certainly argue if the need to reshuffle was ever necessary. But what’s done is ultimately done.
Plenty in the sports world reacted to the news on Greg Olsen, including NFL star Travis Kelce.
