The Dallas Cowboys made headlines on Tuesday after news broke on a signing that the team made. The player that the team signed made the news a bit controversial.
Dallas signed wide receiver Martavis Bryant to a contract. The news emerged first on Tuesday from reporter Shams Charania, who usually follows the NBA beat.
Bryant was previously suspended by the NFL and had to apply for reinstatement.
“Breaking news in the NFL,” Charania posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “The Dallas Cowboys are signing newly-reinstated wide receiver Martavis Bryant.”
Bryant hasn’t seen an NFL field since all the way back in 2018. He faced a suspension that season for violating the NFL’s drug policy. Bryant then violated his conditional reinstatement policy and faced more trouble after that.
After a few years spent in the CFL, however, the newly-reinstated Bryant appears to be back in the NFL. And with the Cowboys. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, however. Dallas, under owner Jerry Jones, has routinely brought on players with “controversial” backgrounds. There are varying degrees to that, though, because we won’t compare Bryant’s dealings to somebody like Greg Hardy.
That being said, it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys can get anything out of this, if anything at all. Being away from the NFL for that long is tough to come back from, purely from a game speed perspective. We’ll see how things shake out for Martavis Bryant in Dallas.
