The NFL world is electric on Thursday. Already, we’ve seen one quarterback trade as Atlanta sent Desmond Ridder to Arizona in exchange for wide receiver Rondale Moore. Then, later on Thursday, another team made a noteworthy deal involving a quarterback.
Washington will trade quarterback Sam Howell, last year’s starting quarterback, to the Seattle Seahawks. Draft picks were involved otherwise in this trade, as Howell is the only player involved in the deal.
“Another QB trade: Commanders are sending last year’s starter Sam Howell to the Seahawks in a pick swap,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. Schefter posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
The trade saw Howell, a fourth-rounder, and a sixth-rounder (No. 102, 179) going to Seattle for a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick (No. 78, 152).
The move comes at an interesting time for reasons not having anything to do with the Commanders at all. It’s one less place the Chicago Bears have to trade Justin Fields. The Bears will need to send him somewhere, at some point, assuming the team still wants to draft Caleb Williams. Well, we know one more place that it won’t be now.
Howell’s quick tenure in Washington ends after two seasons. The former ACC Rookie of the Year didn’t quite cut it with the Commanders. Although he put up gaudier numbers in 2023, that wasn’t enough for him to maintain his status.
