College football is hard, and coaching college football is tenfold harder. Deion Sanders might be finding that out the hard way. Over the last 24 hours, multiple players have recommitted from the Colorado Buffaloes football program.
Three players, including quarterback Danny O’Neil and running back Jamirice Wilder have all de-committed from the Buffs within the last few hours.
2025’s third-ranked quarterback, Antwaan Hill, also de-committed from CU, doing so on Sunday.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported the news on the de-commits.
Colorado is in a precarious recruiting situation right now. Early Signing Day is only a few weeks away, and the team currently has fewer than ten recruits for the Class of 2024. The team is notably heavily reliant on the transfer portal, but to do that two years in a row could and would have some serious consequences. Whether they are intended or not.
These moves also might indicate that former play-caller Sean Lewis could be on the move. Lewis received much praise while CU was hot at the start of the season. Deion made a coaching change later on in the season after their struggles. It will be interesting to see if Lewis moves on and, if he does, if he brings these players.
Colorado had a lot of hype, and then they trickled down to a 4-8 season. While that’s an accomplishment for them and their program, getting to the next step will require much work. And it seems like that work will get even more challenging now.
