The Los Angeles Chargers will look a little different this year. This offseason, the team lost longtime receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, as the Chargers traded Allen to the Chicago Bears while Mike Williams went to the New York Jets.
The effects are clear to LA receiver Joshua Palmer. The veteran wideout played alongside Allen and Williams for a few years, so not having them around anymore was a bit jarring.
Chargers.com sat down with the wide receiver, who admitted he had somber feelings following Allen and Williams’ departure from the team.
“It was definitely different for me, and I can only speak for myself,” Williams told Chargers.com. “Definitely different when you’re used to having your two best friends out there, and now they are not. But they’re nothing but a phone call away, and I’m ready to move forward.”
On how they impacted him personally and professionally, he said, “I was a little sad because they were my good friends, and I looked up to Keenan and Mike. From a football standpoint, it’s a business.”
Palmer will be one of Justin Herbert’s longest-tenured receivers to throw to, so you wonder if that chemistry will pay dividends. It will prove interesting to see how it all shakes out in LA without two of their most recognizable offensive players around anymore.
