Penn State catcher Audree Mendoza stepped up and delivered on Saturday night in a way the softball star never has.
The NCAA Softball Tournament is underway across the country. Penn State is down in College Station in Texas A&M’s regional round. The Nittany Lions are hoping to break through and wreak some havoc early on.
With at-bats like Mendoza’s on Saturday night, they may be about to make a move.
Mendoza crushed a pitch over the fence for a home run! To make matters even sweeter, it was the Penn State catcher’s first career home run! A heck of a time to deliver it, as the Penn State softball account noted.
Mendoza’s home run gave Penn State the lead over Texas State. PSU will have to maintain that if they want to avoid elimination. The Nittany Lions, though, trail big to the Bobcats now with one loss already to their belt.
Mendoza’s home run may be memorable, but will it be enough? Time will tell, but this one is worth the frame anyway. If Penn State comes back and wins, they’ll face the Aggies on Sunday in another win or go home game.
