Deebo Samuel continues to be a name to watch this week. The San Francisco 49ers’ dynamic wide receiver injured his shoulder during Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Round game vs. Green Bay.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan cleared the air on the prolific Samuel earlier this week, or at least attempted to. He basically said it would be a ‘day-to-day’ thing that the team would continue tracking. Well, now it’s Wednesday, and the corner hasn’t been turned quite yet.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that Samuel didn’t practice with the 49ers on Wednesday and that his status hasn’t changed: It remains in doubt ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions.
“49ers’ WR Deebo Samuel will not practice today and his status for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game remains uncertain, per Kyle Shanahan,” Schefter posted. Schefter broke the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
Samuel is one of the most productive players in the NFL. His versatility is a significant strength, as he’s shown he can catch the ball and run the ball with effectiveness and skill. The Niners were able to get through the Packers without him, but with each week, the intensity and stakes are raised. He is vital to this team, and his presence is important.
It sounds like this might come down to the wire.
