Saturday’s XFL action provided one of the craziest touchdowns that we’ll see in any football league in 2023.
Trailing 9-6 in the second quarter, the Orlando Guardians had 4th-and-21 from their own 16-yard line. ESPN’s Lowell Galindo noted how Orlando punter Mac Brown threw a pass for a big play in a punt formation last week.
Well, sure enough the Guardians and Brown went with the fake punt pass play again. And it turned into an absolutely unbelievable play.
Brown threw a jump ball roughly 25 yards downfield to former NFL tight end Jordan Thomas, who came down with the ball and then had a crazy run the rest after the catch for an 84-yard touchdown.
What a ridiculous football play, especially at a professional level.
As Galindo alluded to, Brown also threw a fake punt pass last week that turned into a 69-yard play.
Despite the amazing fake punt touchdown, it was St. Louis who won the game, and in rather blowout fashion.
The Battlehawks won by the score of 53-28 and finish the XFL regular season with a 7-3 record. The Guardians finish with a rough 1-9 record, but at least they came away with a strong XFL Play of the Year contender.
