According to one prominent sports analyst, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has her rival Angel Reese to thank for her stardom. During an appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast, Joy Taylor said Reese’s ring-finger celebration during Reese’s LSU Tigers win over Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes title win.
“We wouldn’t be talking about Caitlin Clark the way we do if it wasn’t that moment for Angel Reese,” Joy Taylor said, per Awful Announcing. “I will die on this hill.”
Taylor insisted that talent alone wasn’t enough to propel Clark to the superstar status she’s currently in.
“It’s crazy to me, every time I bring this up, they’re like, ‘Angel’s not better. We would’ve been talking about her anyway.’ No the f*ck you wouldn’t. You f*cking wouldn’t,” Taylor explained. “And the reason you wouldn’t is I do this every goddamn day.
“I know what we talk about on my show. We were not doing WNBA topic — whole 15-minute segments — on the f*cking show until that happened. F*ck off. I know what I’m talking about. It’s not about saying that Angel’s better than Caitlin or that Caitlin wouldn’t be a great player. It’s principal storytelling. I’m not making this up. I know what I’m talking about.”
Fans reacted to Taylor’s take on social media.
“Taylor has reached ‘The View’ level of imbecility,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“That is officially the worst take for the past 24 hours. That is fucking stupid just like her,” another fan added.
“Caitlin was a star at Iowa before Angel was even a name …I don’t watch women’s basketball much, so this is coming from a casual pov. Which means Caitlin is a superstar in that sport for me to know her,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Clark or Reese is the first to secure a WNBA title.
