The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky is a great one for women’s basketball. The two young stars have helped grow the game to unprecedented levels of popularity.
Unfortunately, Clark and Reese are both out with injuries at the moment, something Clark spoke about recently, detailing the responsibility she feels to get healthy as soon as possible.
“It’s hard, because obviously I do feel this responsibility of being out there and playing,” she said.
“Early on with the first couple injuries, I was like, ‘I need to get back,’” she went on later. “But I think my mom texted after this last injury, and they know how hard it’s been on me, but my mom was like,’ You’ve taken so much time for everybody else, you have to take time for yourself now.’ So I’m just trying to do that the best I can, too.”
However, Clark and Reese’s absence hasn’t taken away from the rivalry at all. The Sky and Fever faced off on Saturday night, and Fever head coach Stephanie White made what many are calling a “petty” move against Chicago.
Late in the game, when the result had already been all but determined (Fever win), White decided to challenge a foul call against Brianna Turner, wanting Turner to get credited with a block instead.
It’s great to see the rivalry flourishing even in the absence of the sport’s stars. Hopefully, both Clark and Reese can return to the court soon.
