LSU forward Angel Reese has had quite a year.
After transferring to LSU from Maryland, Reese led the Tigers to their first national championship in school history, being named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player along the way.
Reese received another honor this week when Time Magazine named her to the TIME100 Next list, the magazine’s annual roundup of 100 people who will shape the future of culture.
Former two-time NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker praised Reese in the writeup for her spot on the list, saying, “There’s really only one time you won’t see me cheering for Angel, and it’s when she plays against my alma mater, the University of Tennessee. It’s all well and good … but I still bleed orange.
She’s ripping the sport open and tearing back the layers. Basketball is about work, effort, and energy, and Angel always brings all three. Her tenacity and confidence on the court make her such an exciting player to watch—it’s incredible to see her stand in her power and make such a big impact on women’s basketball, especially this early in her career.”
Parker is one of the best female basketball players of all time and has been in the national spotlight for nearly 20 years dating back to when she led Naperville Central High School (IL) to back-to-back state championships. She then won two more titles in college at Tennessee and another two in the WNBA.
