The new version of the USFL kicked things off this weekend with a primetime game on Saturday night. On Sunday, the Michigan Panthers and Houston Gamblers showcased a battle between two of the biggest coaching names in the league, Jeff Fisher and Kevin Sumlin.

The 64-year-old Fisher returned to coaching for the first time since 2016 when his time with the Los Angeles Rams ended. Despite a rather lackluster end to his long NFL career, Fisher is still remembered for leading the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999 and putting together some very solid Titans teams during his 17 years at the helm of that franchise.

Fisher’s Panthers got off to a rather rough start on Saturday thanks to some suspect quarterback play by Shea Patterson and Paxton Lynch as the team went into the locker room down 17-0. It must have been a tough stretch for Fisher, which perhaps explains the puzzled look on his face when cameras panned over to him at one point. And given the backward cap that he was wearing at the time, it was ripe for Fisher to officially become the first meme of the new USFL.

It’s just nice to have Jeff Fisher back in our lives, even if it doesn’t look like he’s enjoying things so far…
