In a little break from convention, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Northwestern Wildcats are opening their 2022 season across the pond, playing their 2022 season-opener in Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. And apparently, the Irish were offering some exceptional hospitality to the American college football fans.
Nebraska college football reporter Jake Sorensen, the stadium lost its Internet connection midway through Saturday’s contest, hindering its ability to sell food and drinks – including alcoholic beverages.
So instead of simply delaying alcohol sales until the Internet came back online, the stadium had a much better solution to the problem: simply give the beer and alcohol away for free to any fan looking to purchase a beverage.
“Beer/alcohol is free right now at Aviva Stadium because the internet is down,” Sorensen said in a Tweet. “Irish hospitality is top notch!”
Here’s a look at how long the beer lines got as a result:
Naturally, the college football world was absolutely delighted with this heroic decision from Aviva Stadium. Several people even suggested that college football should move to the stadium on a full-time basis even after this one-off game.
There are no future games currently scheduled to be played in Ireland, but the nation’s uncanny hospitality might convince the college football world to play another game overseas in the future.
