While the NFL season has come to a close, we’re just a few weeks away from the first season of the UFL, the byproduct of last year’s merger between the USFL and XFL.
With the season set to get underway on March 30, UFL teams are continuing to try and fill out their rosters.
Tuesday night, the Birmingham Stallions made a big addition at quarterback, as they reportedly have come to an agreement with former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Matt Corral.
Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen had the news first.
Corral was at Ole Miss from 2018-21 first as a backup to fellow UFL quarterback Jordan Ta’amu then as the starter for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Corral’s junior season saw the quarterback lead Ole Miss to a 5-5 record and go 231-for-326 for 3,337 yards and 29 touchdown passes to 14 interceptions This landed him on the All-SEC second team, capping off his career by leading Ole Miss to a 26-20 Outback Bowl victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. Corral threw for 342 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win and was named the game’s MVP.
Corral went on to be drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft but a Lisfranc injury in training camp cost him his entire rookie season. Corral signed with the New England Patriots before the 2023 season but was waived in September. The UFL should provide a fresh start for the 25-year-old quarterback.
