The USMNT’s loss to The Netherlands Saturday in the Round of 16 marked the latest disappointing finish for the team in the FIFA World Cup.

U.S. soccer fans are frustrated. They’ve also found a scapegoat: USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter.

Not long after the U.S. exited from the World Cup, the hashtag #berhalterout began picking up steam on Twitter. One Twitter user has even retitled his user name as #berhalterout. He noted that The Netherlands head coach, Louis Van Gaal, said after Saturday’s match, “The USMNT didn’t adapt, they didn’t adjust, we made our tactical plan based on (targeting the flanks).”

#BerhalterOut concluded, “If that’s not enough for #BerhalterOut, you’re ignoring reality. #USA”

These fans are clearly passionate about soccer, the USMNT and they’ve made it clear they want Berhalter removed. He’s been the head coach of the U.S. team since 2018.

With the United States set to host the World Cup (along with Mexico and Canada) in 2026, these fans insist now is the time for change.

Glad to see #BerhalterOut is trending He did bare minimum and allowing him to return for 2026 means USSF does not have high standards,” tweeted Steven Negishi.

“Berhalter was not the coach for us to go far in this tournament,” tweeted another user.
