The United States Women’s National Team has faced a lot of criticism throughout their run through the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and now faces a lot of pressure as they take on a talented Sweden team after struggling early in the tournament. But USWNT captain Lindsey Horan doesn’t sound worried about the pressure.
During a recent interview, Lindsey Horan explained that this sort of pressure is something that you expect when you are competing at the highest level at the World Cup, and she thinks that the team can use it to fuel themselves ahead of the pivotal match.
“At the end of the day, it’s a World Cup,” Horan said according to Fox Sports. “This is what we’re playing for. We’re playing for these big matches, we’re playing for these big moments, these pressure cookers. And that’s what we want to be a part of.
“And you know, us being the U.S. national team, we’re always going to have that. … But [we can] use it to our advantage too because we’re going to go out and fight, and we’re going to do everything that we’ve done in past World Cups to win this game.”
The USWNT certainly has a lot of doubters right now, but they can prove a lot of people wrong with a strong showing this week.
