Former USMNT assistant coach Lenny Roitman has been arrested in Florida on charges he fraudulently redeemed tens of thousands of dollars in coupons.
According to BocaNewsNow.com, Roitman and an employee at a B.J.’s Wholesale Club in Boynton Beach entered fake coupon codes at a self-checkout register to defraud the company.
Roitman was arrested May 4 on fraud and larceny charges after an investigation by B.J.’s security and the local police. The scheme allegedly began in November, and Roitman allegedly redeemed 79 coupons worth more than $63,000 with the help of the employee.
The employee who helped Roitman was also arrested. According to the police report, Reitman has just paid paid $3.11 for $1,208 worth of merchandise at the time of his arrest.
As of May 10, Roitman was being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
According to FrontRowSoccer.com, Roitman served under head coach Lothar Osiander on the U.S. Under-23 team that qualified for the 1988 Summer Olympics. He also coached for the USMNT team in the lead up to the 1990 World Cup.
In addition his USMNT experience, Roitman also served as head coach of the New York Centaurs in 1995 in their one season as an A-League team. He later spent several years as head coach of the Brooklyn College men’s squad.
The 69-year-old Roitman is a resident of Delray Beach, Florida.
