Liverpool grabbed a well deserved three points and lifted their long awaited Premier League trophy, but many U.S. based soccer fans were having their eye on Christian Pulisic. The American star at Chelsea was subbed on in the 59th minute but he made the most of his limited time on the field, taking part in a Chelsea comeback that was inspired but ultimately fell short in a 5-3 defeat.
Pulisic’s first contribution came two minutes after he was subbed on, being a crucial part of a Tammy Abraham goal. Pulisic was the catalyst, beating Fabinho, Joe Gomez, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Not many players were able to weave their way through Liverpool’s defense like that but Pulisic did.
His goal was even more impressive. Pulisic isn’t typically known for his hold up play but he was able to get to the bouncing ball right in the middle of the box, let the ball take another bounce, settle the ball, take a couple touches while turning, and shoot. Alexander-Arnold for some reason gave Pulisic plenty of space and he took advantage.
In the end, it wasn’t enough. The Premier League champs held on for the 5-3 victory, leading to a rather fun Championship Sunday. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Leicester City are all separated by a single point and two of those three teams will earn a Champions League place. Chelsea could’ve clinched a spot had they won, but instead must get a result against Wolves or a Leicester loss against United.
