Serbia seemed to take control of their World Cup match vs. Cameroon with a pair of stoppage time goals to end the first half to put them ahead 2-1. They bolstered their lead with another goal early in the second half. Cameroon looked dead in the water until smart substitutions and two quick goals flipped the game on its head. Here’s how fast it went down:
- 53′: Serbia takes a 3-1 lead through a lovely team goal scored by Aleksandar Mitrović
- 55′: Vincent Aboubakar comes on for Martin Hongla as Cameroon looks for a spark
- 63′: Abouobakar pulls one back to make it 3-2
- 66′: Eric Choupo-Moting brings Cameroon all the way back, 3-3
The Aboubakar goal was sublime. He timed his run perfectly, got into the box, took a touch to lose the last defender, then scooped the ball over the keeper’s head, taking a bounce before it crossing the goal line and bulging the top of the net. The celebration was delayed as fans throughout the stadium and at home thought he was offside. A quick VAR check confirmed he was on and so was the game.
Super sub Aboubakar wasn’t done making his mark on this match. Three minutes later, he flew down the right side and squared the ball to his teammate Choupo-Moting, who fired it home on his first touch.
The Indomitable Lions striker took the game over like he told you he would.
Cameroon put its supporters through a range of emotions throughout the match and gave fans of the beautiful game something to text their friends about.
