Unfortunately, the hit football show that features both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo going at one another and looking to outdo what the other does on the pitch looks as though it will be about to come to a close in the next few seasons.

However, there is an exciting new battle that looks set to take place out on football pitches across Europe for the next decade and potentially more, with both Erling Braut Haaland and Kylian Mbappe set to take centre-stage.

Of course, those that are looking for soccer betting tips would already be wise to be keeping an eye on the progress of these two talented phenomenons, whilst also keeping an eye on Ronaldo and Messi whilst they can still put on a masterful display would also be advisable.

The changing of the guard already appears to have started

We may have had already had a glimpse of the changing of the guard process this season when the experienced duo were both handed early UEFA Champions League exits, whilst the two young guns had managed to fire their respective sides to the later rounds of the competition.

Many will remember that Messi had a first-hand and up-close personal experience with what Mbappe can do as he witnessed the Frenchman score a hat-trick for Paris Saint-Germain past his FC Barcelona in the first leg before striking a penalty in the second; a game in which Messi showed he could still do what he does best and score.

Haaland might not have been the one to dump Ronaldo’s Juventus side out of the competition, however he ran the show against Sevilla.

Stats further highlight why Mbappe and Haaland are the rightful heirs to the throne

There is no doubting the ability that both Mbappe and Haaland have, with it coming in abundance. Mbappe managed to hit 154 goals before he reached 23, whilst Messi had scored 140 and Ronaldo had netted just 102 by comparison.

Furthermore, Haaland has shown he can be clinical in whatever competition he is playing in as the Borussia Dortmund forward has golden boots on his feet. The Norwegian has 53 goals in his 56 total appearances for BVB, which has lead to continued speculation about his future at the Bundesliga side, whilst he also has 20 goals in his 16 UEFA Champions League outings to date.

To further highlight their effectiveness on the grand stage, Mbappe and Haaland have managed to combine for 32 goals in the UEFA Champions League since the start of last season, whilst Messi and Ronaldo only have 15 between them.

Rivalry between Mbappe and Haaland has already begun

The fact that a rivalry between Mbappe and Haaland is already being discussed at their young age is not something that should be surprising, especially as the Norwegian appears to have entertained the idea of it by remarking: “I saw Mbappe yesterday, he scored some nice goals. So I got the pre-match boost from him. It was nice,” after netting two against Sevilla in an earlier UEFA Champions League encounter.

Whilst we can look to enjoy the magnificent duel between Messi and Ronaldo for a little longer, we can also look forward to another immense battle featuring the newest kids on the block: Mbappe and Haaland.
