On Tuesday, Trackhouse Racing unveiled Nos. 1 and 99 Chevrolets that will honor the Earnhardt family legacy during NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway.
The cars driven by Ross Chastain and Daniel Suárez will feature the same design used by Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the 1998 exhibition race at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan, which marked the first time a father and son raced against one another.
“We wanted to do something that honors the legacy of the sport, recognizes our valued partners at Trackhouse Racing, and something that fans can get behind,” Trackhouse owner Justin Marks said in a team release. “We think this is the right combination marrying the history of the Earnhardts who are both Hall of Famers, acknowledging our support from Coke and Chevrolet, plus supporting the fans’ excitement for Throwback Weekend in Darlington.”
There was a very positive reaction amongst NASCAR fans on social media to the historic car designs and tribute to the Earnhart family.

Dale Jr. finished ahead of his dad on that day in Japan driving the 1 car. We’ll see if history repeats itself this weekend in Darlington.
The big event of NASCAR Throwback Weekend is the Goodyear 400, which gets underway on Sunday, May 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
