A scary scene at Indianapolis 500 qualifying on Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as 38-year-old driver Sebastien Bourdais had a horrible crash into the Turn 2 wall.

USA Today adds that Bourdais crashed “while running a faster speed than any other driver was able to reach all day.”

Here’s video of the fiery crash:

IndyCar released a statement saying that Bourdais has been hospitalized, and has been diagnosed with fractures to his pelvis and a fracture to his right hip. He will undergo surgery on the pelvis tonight.

The crash comes just one week after a horrifying crash in NASCAR that left Aric Almirola with a fractured T5 vertebra.
