Alex Bowman was involved in an accident at Texas Motor Speedway on September 25 and hasn’t driven in a NASCAR race since then due to concussion-like assumptions that he’s been experiencing. Now comes news that Bowman will miss the next three NASCAR races as continues to deal with the concussion and its aftereffects.
Hendricks Motorsports announced Wednesday that Bowman will miss the next three races at Las Vegas, Homestead, and Martinsville. This decision was made after Bowman was evaluated by Dr. Michael “Micky” Collins, clinical director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for the entire staff at UPMC,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports, in a statement. “Our priority continues to be Alex’s recovery and long-term health, and we will follow the plan that Dr. Collins and his team recommend. We’re not looking past the next three races and will evaluate plans for the season finale (at Phoenix Raceway) as the event approaches.”
Bowman shared a statement of his own, saying “I am continuing to focus my efforts on getting my health back to 100% so that I can return racing as soon as possible.”
Hendrick has had Xfinity Series driver Noah Gragson sitting in Bowman’s car the last two races and he will continue to do so in the upcoming ones as well.
