Harambe is a cultural phenomenon, the likes of which the world hasn’t seen since maybe the inexplicable craze that was Gangnam Style.
Honored with internet memes and athlete dedications, it was only a matter of time before the world of music got involved and rapper Young Thug decided to get out ahead of the craze and write the first, to our knowledge, song about Harambe. There’s only one problem… Harambe’s not in the song.
Here are some of the lyrics, which include Young Thug taking percocet and threatening to kill people (language warning):
“This shit can get ugly for you / I’ll pull up and bust your mama / I’ll pull up and bust your brother / I’ll aim at your fuckin’ family
I’ll aim at your whole clique
I’ll aim at your mothafuckin’ mama
I’ll aim at your fuckin’ dad
I’ll aim at your daughter, son”
Somebody, because this is the internet, will claim that this is Harambe’s revenge against those responsible for his death, but that would be irresponsible since we all know Harambe’s spirit would never harm a soul. Just like most music, or anything from Young Thug, trying to rationalize it is a complete and utter waste of time.
So the world has its first tribute to Harambe, without actually making any references to Harambe. Does this say more about Young Thug than it does about Harambe? Yes. Yes it does. Rest in Peace, you beautiful creature.
