The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs met in the Super Bowl in what the Chiefs hoped would be a history-setting evening. With a victory, the Chiefs would have become the first franchise to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Instead, Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce turned in two of the poorest performances of their careers and the Chiefs lost 40-22. As if struggling on the field weren’t enough for Kelce, his girlfriend, global pop sensation Taylor Swift, was booed loudly by the Eagles fans in attendance after being featured on the jumbotron.
Surprisingly, of all people, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley came to Swift’s defense.
“I remember that they showed her on the Jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there. She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger. We’re trying to expand the game and her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting,” Barkley said.
However, one fan noted that Kelce himself had nothing of the sort to say in his girlfriend’s defense.
“Mind you her own man not standing up for her like this,” the fan wrote on Twitter.
People reacted to the fan’s acknowledgment on social media.
“Because soon that won’t be her man anymore,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“fr why is travis not saying anything? like stand up for your girl dude,” another fan added.
“Well, when people were knocking him, she didn’t stand up publicly, so I guess they are good for each other,” added one fan.
It’ll be interesting to see how the couple rebounds from the tough experience at the Super Bowl.
