The Flash has, once again, been delayed.
The feature film starring the fastest man alive will likely not hit its expected 2018 release date, as Variety reports the script is being entirely rewritten. We’ll next see Ezra Miller’s very fast superhero in Justice League, which at this point basically has to be a massive success.
Seth Grahame-Smith initially penned the script for The Flash, and was set to direct himself. But he dropped out, and was replaced by Rick Famuyiwa (who helmed Dope.) As production was set to begin, Famuyiwa dropped out of the project over creative differences.
Filming was supposed to begin this month, but now Variety reports Joby Harold has been hired to rewrite the entire script. Miller is now shooting the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, so Warner Brothers decided to use the time to revamp the story.
The news could be a positive considering the previous scripts featured ideas prominently from its previous directors, but it’s starting to feel like this movie will never come out. It definitely will, but these delays are killer.
At this point, the only certainty is Miller will be playing Barry Allen, while Kiersey Clemons will likely play Iris West. Who will direct the film? That’s still TBD.
We should have guessed the best way to slow down The Flash was to have him go up against the main nemesis of all the DC superheroes: Hollywood development hell.
