We all hate road construction, but when a project is finally completed we sometimes don’t even know what to do. Maybe that is the excuse one driver in Oregon can use for her recent traffic accident.
The Sellwood Bridge in Portland, Oregon actually opened ahead of schedule, much to the surprise of one photojournalist in the area…
Of course, the new section of the bridge is not designed for vehicle traffic. It is meant to be there for people walking on their own two feet and those riding bicycles, keeping them out of harm’s way from cars and trucks zipping by as they go over the water below. But there’s always one idiot, right? It took less than half a day for the first motor vehicle mishap on the bridge…
The truck created a dead end on the bridge for the walkers and cyclists the lane was intended for, leading to some frustrated bikers having to carry their bikes over the barrier while avoid the oncoming traffic, or simply turn around and go a different direction. The driver apparently just abandoned the vehicle which sounds like the right reaction for this. I wonder what he or she will tell the cops when confronted about this.
It took some time to remove the pickup truck, and doing so was not easy. It required the use of a fork lift and forced the newly renovated bridge to close while the truck was removed.
The bridge did eventually reopen to allow traffic to pass through, but here’s hoping it will be at least another 12 hours before some moron driver finds themselves in the wrong lane again.
Below video of how this all played out.
