On Wednesday, People Magazine announced the 2017 winner of its annual Sexiest Man Alive award, which counts icons like Dwayne Johnson, David Beckham, George Clooney and Brad Pitt among its previous winners.

And now, this guy.

That, if you don’t know, is country singer Blake Shelton, the 2017 Sexiest Man Alive, according to People. He is a platinum-selling artist, a Grammy-nominee and a television personality. He is not, however, known for being particularly sexy, and his selection prompted an often-hilarious backlash among critics on Twitter.

Now, everybody calm down. Sure, Shelton doesn’t exactly conform to modern ideals of sexiness, but he’s probably a very kind and sensitive pers—oh wait, what was that? He actually has a history of homophobic, misogynistic and xenophobic tweets? Interesting.

Yeah ok, so maybe he’s not such a charmer after all.

So Shelton may not be the sexiest man in the world (or even the sexiest man named Blake Shelton), and he may be a bit #problematic, but we can pay him one sincere compliment: The guy has an A+ publicist.
