Maybe 80 is the new 20?
If you are Dame Judi Dench, that appears to be the case. The 81-year-old acting legend has apparently waited all 81 years of her life to get to this point — getting her first tattoo.
What bad ass tattoo did Dench get? Actually, a pretty bad-ass looking Carpe Diem on her wrist is all.
Why Carpe Diem? It apparently is the motto Dench lives by and judging by her career on the screen and life off of it, that is certainly how she lives life.
I mean, who else gets to play each of the last two Queens of England, the iconic M in the James Bond films and do all the cool things she’s done off screen as well?
Sure, the tattoo is not exactly a full chest piece or back tattoo, but at 81, sitting through any session is impressive to say the least.
However, it wouldn’t be the first time a tattoo has appeared on her body. See, Dench was and still is a practical joker and apparently had a fake tattoo of producer Harvey Weinstein applied to her rear end.
It is well known that Dench got her U.S. acting career going thanks to roles Weinstein had her playing earlier in her career.
How did the Dame herself come to a real tattoo?
Apparently it was a gift from her daughter Finty Williams.
Getting Carpe Diem appears to have been a compromise after thinking previously about an Indian symbol for life and love she had previously been told about. However, ever the prankster she appears to have backed out over fears of permanently being set up by those around her.
“There’s an Indian symbol that I like which supposedly represents life and love and everything,” Dench said, explaining what she would have inked onto her arm. “One of the cameramen who worked on The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel told me what it meant, but I’m a bit nervous in case I’m being set up. It might be unbelievably rude.”
Safe to say there aren’t many 81-year-old’s like Dame Judi Dench.
