Over the past several months and years, the participation of transgender women in women’s sports has become a hot debate throughout the United States, and Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott made it very clear where he stands on that issue during the GOP Presidential Debate on Wednesday night.
During his 45-second closing arguments at the end of Wednesday night’s Republican presidential debate, Tim Scott decided to take a shot at transgender women participating in women’s sports.
“If you’re able-bodied in America, you work. If you take out a loan, you pay it back. If you commit a violent crime, you got to jail. And if God made you a man, you play sports against men,” Scott said in his closing arguments, according to Fox News.
This anti-trans stance has been a strong plank in the Republican platform over the past several months and a key point of contention with Democrats. Back in April, the House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act which would have banned transgender women and girls from competing according to their gender identity.
Not a single Democrat voted in favor of the bill and it died in Senate, though President Joe Biden made it clear he would have vetoed it even if it somehow made it through congress.
