Earlier this month, four American friends were attacked and kidnapped by gunmen shortly after crossing the border into Mexico, leading to the death of two Americans while the other two were rescued. Given the terrible incident, a United States congressman is criticizing President Joe Biden’s response – comparing this tragedy to how Biden responded to the imprisonment of WNBA star Brittney Griner.
Last year, Brittney Griner was arrested and sentenced to nine years in a Russian penal colony after authorities found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage. Griner ultimately spent 10 months in Russian custody before she was ultimately released when the United States agreed to a prisoner swap that brought Griner home and sent convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout back to Russia.
Biden and the State Department worked hard to secure Griner’s release, and Texas congressman Troy E. Nehls revealed he’s still frustrated that Biden put in so much effort to secure her release and wanted to make sure Biden put forth the same effort to free the four Americans kidnapped in Mexico.
“I hope Joe Biden pays as much attention to the four U.S. citizens kidnapped at gunpoint in Mexico as he did Brittney Griner,” Nehls said in a tweet last week.
Obviously, it was a very different situation. Still, two of the Americans were rescued alive while two were ultimately found dead.
