Former NFL and college football star Herschel Walker is currently running for U.S. Senator in Georgia after being encouraged to do so by former President Donald Trump. The former also seems to have a way with words much in the same way the latter does, in as much as they tend to say things that boggle the mind.
Walker has amassed a collection of strange anecdotes and weird phrases during his campaign. He’s claimed that Trump never said the 2020 election was stolen. He’s said the biggest program facing America right now is celebrities. He’s tried to claim that he never hid the fact that he had several children out of wedlock while chastising others about doing so. He seems to think there are 51 states. His solution to gun violence was to create a “department that can look at young men that’s looking at women that’s looking at their social media.”
One of Walker’s biggest pet peeves appears to be climate change, or the insistence that it’s real. In July, he blamed China for taking all of America’s “good air” and giving us “their bad air.”
This week, the Republican candidate lashed out at spending meant to curb climate change again, this time blaming…trees.
“They continue to try to fool you that they are helping you out. But they’re not,” Walker said. “Because a lot of money, it’s going to trees. Don’t we have enough trees around here?”
Walker appears to be mad about the provision in the Inflation Reduction Act that allocates $1.5 billion to the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. It’s considered important as a way to “help bring cooling and pollution-fighting urban tree cover to all corners of the country, maximizing the multifold benefits of trees in combating climate change.”
Or, perhaps, Herschel Walker just thinks trees have had it too good for too long and he wants some revenge. Who the hell knows.
