Former Georgia Bulldogs football running back Herschel Walker is currently running against incumbent Raphael Warnock in an attempt to become a United States Senator, despite numerous scandals and a number of blatant lies. And according to famous sports author Jeff Pearlman, Walker’s history of publically lying goes back a long time.
In 2018, Pearlman wrote a book about the USFL, detailing the failed football league that involved both Donald Trump and Herschel Walker. And as former President Trump often defends Walker, Pearlman makes a strong comparison between the two: their lying.
“Well, it’s interesting because you can look at the lying of Donald Trump and trace it to the USFL. Everything Donald Trump does in the public sphere now, I can give you an example from the USFL that parallels it,” Pearlman said in an interview with Vox.
“And you can look at Herschel Walker’s lying and trace it to the USFL too,” Pearlman said. “Because he signed a contract with the USFL, was caught by Georgia officials and lied, and said he never signed a contract and then had to admit he did. [By signing the contract, he made himself ineligible to play college football. Eventually, a USFL official leaked the fact that he had signed to a reporter, which forced Walker’s hand.] But that’s his first official national lie, there it is. And he had to apologize for lying.”
Walker has been the subject of all sorts of controversy over the past several months when reports surfaced that he financed a woman’s abortion, for which he was also blasted by his son on Twitter. He also shocked the nation when he displayed a fake police badge at a debate, doesn’t understand diabetes, appears to hate trees, and apparently thinks there are 51 states.
