Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate for Senate in Georgia, lost to Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock in a brutal head-to-head special runoff election.
Though Georgia has yet to certify the election, Walker already conceded the race in his trademarked, gaffe-prone style while trailing by more than 100,000 votes.
He weathered several scandals over the course of the grueling campaign. Multiple women accused him of financing their abortions. Walker claimed a $1,5000 tax credit on his home outside Dallas, Texas only intended for primary residences.
Now, behind-the-scenes details are starting to leak into the press.
NBC News released a devastating report Thursday that blamed Walker’s loss on “money problems, micromanaging, and a candidate who was evasive about his past.”
The report revealed infighting among Walker’s top advisors attempting to tweak Walker’s fledgling fundraising message.
“If you think that’s how it works, you’re smoking drugs,” the adviser snapped back.
“If you think we’re going to win a campaign with no money, you’re smoking drugs!” the consultant shouted in return.
A few slurs, including a four-letter word, were exchanged. No one apologized. Walker never changed his fundraising pitch, and he was eventually outspent in the runoff, contributing to his defeat Tuesday night.
Walker has yet to announce if this will be his last run for office.
