Typically, when a former United States president throws his support behind a particular senate candidate in his own political party, it works out well for the candidate as it brings them attention and support to help them win their election. But that hasn’t exactly been the case for Herschel Walker and his relationship with Donald Trump. In fact, Trump is actually making things worse for Walker in multiple different ways.

As Herschel Walker is trying to raise money and much-needed attention for the remainder of his campaign in an attempt to defeat opponent Raphael Warnock in a runoff special election in Georgia, Donald Trump is hindering Walker’s ability to do both.

By announcing his own bid for the 2024 presidency, Trump is actually hurting Walker’s campaign by stealing attention away from the important Georgia senate race.

“No, it doesn’t help (Walker),” one strategist with Trump World ties said last week. “The 2022 midterms are not over and anything that takes away the ability to fundraise, to get the message out there, to keep the media and the journalists focused on this race, is bad for the Republican Party as a whole.”

Not only that, but Trump is also collecting campaign money for himself which contributors believe is going to Walker’s campaign. Trump has been seeking donations that his campaign says is for the “Official Georgia Runoff Fundraising Goal,” but only 10% of that money actually goes to Walker’s campaign.

Still, Trump continues to support Walker publically – even if his actions are hurting the former Georgia Bulldogs star.
