Never one to hold back, Charles Barkley isn’t exactly afraid to share his opinions on matters, no matter the sensitivity. Of course, those at Warner Bros. Discovery probably don’t want Barkley talking about the 2024 presidential election on the TNT pregame show, but he would likely find a way to do so, as only he could.
Barkley went on a different medium to discuss politics, though, as the Hall of Famer recently weighed in on a multitude of topics during an appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on Max.
Wallace wanted to talk about Barkley politically, mentioning that in the 1990s, he once talked about running for the governor of Alabama as a Republican. Wallace told Barkley that he’s known he’s been a Democrat for a long time before asking where he stood on the political spectrum.
“Yeah, I consider myself an Independent. (Okay) because I hate the word Republican Democratic, Conservative, and Liberal, because I think, yeah you can be one of those things,” he said. “But you don’t think that way on every subject. Like you have to have like, yeah I think a certain way on this subject that might put me in this box, I think a certain way on this subject that put me in another box. So I really thought hard about running for governor. But then I realized, like, I don’t think either one of these parties are really concerned about people. And that’s what America is, people. It ain’t a box or a slot. Like hey, we disagree. But I ain’t mad at you.”
Wallace asked Barkley about a potential rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump when it comes to the 2024 United States presidential election.
“I don’t feel good about a rematch. Number one, I don’t think President Trump represents a statesman, civility, things like that,” stated Barkley. “And I think President Biden is too old. I don’t feel really good about either one of them. You know, a president. I think the one thing if you’re the President of the United States, you have to carry yourself, even if I disagree with you, you have to carry yourself a certain way. You’re the president of the United States, that’s a really big deal. You have to have, you have to have civility, you have to be respectful. You have to carry yourself a certain way.”
But just because he doesn’t feel good about either one of them, that doesn’t mean Barkley will abstain from voting in the ’24 election. It remains to be seen what the outspoken 60-year-old retired basketball star and current sports personality will say over the next year, but he made his opinion clear in his interview with Wallace.
