The long nightmare of Brittney Griner’s detainment and imprisonment in Russia over an inconsequential amount of cannabis oil is finally over and the WNBA star is back home in America. While she readjusts to her freedom, her wife, Cherelle Griner, expressed her appreciation and excitement in a social media post over the weekend.
“Yesterday my heart was made whole thanks to the collective efforts of MANY! I’m humbled by their hearts. To care for another, a stranger to some, a friend to some— is humanity in its purest form,” Cherelle wrote on Instagram Sunday. “As BG and I start our journey to heal our minds, bodies, and spirits— I wanted to personally say thank you to some of the hands; seen and unseen, that helped make it possible for me to see my wife again!”
Griner then named several public figures who supported her efforts to bring Brittney back to the U.S., including Robin Roberts, Angela Rye, April Ryan, Joy Reid, Gayle King, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
She was also sure to include a message for Paul Whelan, who remains imprisoned in a Russian penal colony.
“I appreciate each and every one of you! Let’s continue to use our hands, voices, platforms, and resources to bring Paul and all Americans home,” she wrote. “All families deserve to be whole! Love, Cherelle Griner.”
